Shaqra Governorate is home to 0.5% of the Riyadh Region's population, estimated at 46,403 people according to the 2022 Saudi census, and covers an area of 4,110 km².

Shaqra is distinguished by its historic architectural identity, embodied in its heritage town center, which comprises historic palaces, walls, mosques, wells, and dams, including Al-Subaie Palace, the residence of the founding King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, as well as Al-Husseini Mosque, the Al-Jomaih House, Al-Humaidiyah Well, and the Wadi Al-Rimah Dam.

Shaqra Governorate has revitalized its tourism landscape by restoring the architectural heritage that flourishes in the city’s historic center. Heritage tourism has regained its appeal in the governorate through the renovation of the historic belt, which comprises palaces, houses, walls, wells, and dams.
